Parents from Downtown Little League faced off against parents from Greenwich Little League in a softball game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on September 23, 2009. Money raised by the event, a joint fundraiser for the two leagues, will be used to help pay for field time at the same minor league baseball facility to host games between teams from GVLL's and DLL's juniors and seniors divisions.
The visiting Downtown squad scored early against their hosts when Santo Rosa, Norm Kleinman and Joe Romeo led off by hitting consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs in the first inning. Three runs ultimately came in that inning on hits by Ian Behar and Peter Braus, and a fielder's choice by Charlie Sewell, to give Downtown a lead it would never surrender. The offensive outburst, however, proved to be an anomalie, as both teams thereafter discovered that it is hard to score when you have to run 360 feet around the diamond. The final score, after 11 innnings of play (the game having been extended beyond nine innings by unaminious decree of the 34 participating players), was 6-1.
