Please read the waivers carefully:
By indicating your acceptance, you understand, agree, warrant and covenant as follows:
LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL WAIVER:
I/We, the parents/guardians of the above-named candidate for a position on a Little League team, hereby give my/our approval to participate in any and all Little League activities, including transportation to and from the activities.
I/We know that participation in baseball or softball may result in serious injuries and protective equipment does not prevent all injuries to players, and do hereby waive, release, absolve, indemnify, and agree to hold harmless the local Little League, Little League Baseball, Incorporated, the organizers, sponsors, supervisors, participants, and persons transporting my/our child to and from activities from any claim arising out of any injury to my/our child whether the result of negligence or for any other cause.
I/We agree to return upon request the uniform and other equipment issued to my/our child in as good conditions as when received except normal wear and tear.
I/We agree that our child (candidate) may be required to try out for a team. If such does not attend at least 50 percent of the tryouts, local Board-of-Directors' approval is required for such candidate to be placed on a team.
I/We agree that our child (candidate) may be chosen at any time to play on a Major Division team, if he or she is of the correct age for such division as determined by the local league and Little League Baseball. Declining to move up to such Major Division team will result in forfeiture of eligibility for the Major Division for the current season, and may be subject to further restrictions by the local league.
I/We agree to provide proof of legal residence (as defined by Little League Baseball, Incorporated) and age. I/We understand that our child (candidate) must be eligible under the residence and age regulations of Little League Baseball, Incorporated, to participate in this Local League, and that if any controversy arises regarding residence and/or age, the decision of the Charter Committee in Williamsport shall be final and binding. I/We further understand that if any participant on a Little League Team does not qualify for participation in the league based on residence (as defined by Little League Baseball, Incorporated) and/or age, such participant and/or team on which he/she participates be found ineligible, and forfeit(s) and/or suspension of Tournament privileges may be decreed by action of the Charter Committee or Tournament Committee.
I/We will furnish a certified birth certificate of the above-named candidate to League Officials.

WHAT DIVISION WILL MY CHILD PLAY IN?
Divisional placement is mostly determined by your child’s age as of April 30, 2010 for younger kids, and by a combination of age and tryouts at older levels. We also have a Girls Softball program for ages 9 and up.
Age Division
6 Rookie Ball
7 Junior Minors Lower (machine or coach-pitch)
8 Junior Minors Lower or Upper (your choice – Upper is more competitive and teammate requests cannot be considered – see below)
9 Junior Minors Upper or Girls Softball (girls age 9 and up) or co-ed Minors Baseball (kid-pitch)
10-12 Co-ed Minors or Majors Baseball (assignment by tryout) or Girls Softball
13-14 Juniors baseball(coed)
15-16 Seniors baseball (coed)
Girls 13-16 softball
WHY DOES DLL REQUIRE THAT EVERY FAMILY VOLUNTEER SOME TIME DURING THE SEASON?
There are commercial, for-profit vendors which provide baseball “experiences” for a fee and are run on a drop-your-kid-off basis. We are happy to give references for those who prefer that style of program.
Little League is different. We are a community league, a place for kids and parents to team up together. Your involvement can range from helping coach a team to flipping burgers for an hour at a cookout. But we ask every family to help in some way.
HOW ARE TEAMS ROSTERED? CAN I REQUEST A PARTICULAR TEAM OR TEAMMATE?
For younger levels (Rookie Ball and Junior Minor Lower) we welcome coach or teammate requests given to us at the time of registration.
In older levels, many youth leagues have found that rostering “by friendships” tends to create teams of all boys versus teams of mostly girls, older kids against younger kids, or more serious players against more social athletes. This, in turn, leads to one-sided results
and negative experiences all around. For this reason, after the Junior Minor Lower level we do our best to roster for diversity and balance, rather than through teammate requests.
ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVALABLE?
Absolutely. Email directors@downtownlittleleague.org.
WHEN DOES THE SEASON START? WHAT IS THE GAME SCHEDULE?
We have pre-season (mostly indoor) practice events in early March. Games begin in early April and end the weekend of June 21-22. Most divisions (except Rookie Ball and Challenger) will play one game per weekend together with a few weekday afternoon or evening games in May or June. We are dependent on permits, but our general plan is:
Rookie Ball (6 YOs) Saturday mornings, 8-10 AM
JM Lower (7-8 YOs) Sunday, game times all day
JM Upper (8-9 YOs) Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Minors (9-10 YOs) Saturday, games times all day
Majors (10-12 YOs) Sunday afternoons
Girls Softball (9-16 YOs) Saturday afternoons
Challengers Saturday mornings, 10-noon
OTHER IMPORTANT DATES -
January 30, 2010 @ the BMCC Gymnasium, mandatory try-outs for players ages 9-12 intending to play Minors and Majors Baseball (tryouts at BMCC gym – details to follow by email). Softball tryouts will be held in February. Date and time TBA.
Early March -- TBA, Al & Al Coaching Clinic
Late March – TBA, Parents Meeting, Positive Coaching Alliance
Downtown Little League ("DLL") will be partnering again in 2010 with the Positive Coaches Alliance ("PCA"). Again, all managers and coaches are required to attend the annual PCA coaches workshop to be trained in the principles of positive coaching. In order for our children to truly benefit from this program, one parent from every family who has a child participating in the Downtown Little League will be required to attend a two hour "Parents Workshop" to be held early in the 2010 season. Please indicate your commitment to attend this mandatory workshop.
